Home on the Range, April 22-27th
Spoonflower Design Challenge
Update - Well, I didn’t come in last place in that Intergalactic Adventures challenge, so I feel like it’s a win, but I did not place anywhere near my previous entries. And I knew that would happen because I didn’t put enough into the design (click here to find out why it’s all because of the Beastie Boys). What I learned from this challenge is not to wait until the last minute to begin my design. It seems like something I should have learned my entire life, but at 36 it’s just now sinking in. (I’ll forget this lesson again in two weeks…)
So moving on! I DID learn from my procrastinating ways last week and began designing my Home on the Range design well before the deadline. I scoured Pinterest for vintage cowboy designs. I eventually stumbled upon several vintage monochrome designs which peaked my interest.
Here’s a good example, courtesy of Vintage Cowboy on Tumblr.
Pretty cool, huh? I' loved the simplicity of the designs, the use of ink and contrast, and immediately knew I had to try it.
I did though notice Pinterest was predominently littered with COWBOYS on the range, so for my piece I chose to design a cowgirl…. which inevitably turned into a exaggerated pinup version of a cowgirl because I just love the pinup girl aesthetic.
So here she is. “Pin Up Cowgirl” by me, J Marie (Ulimately not monochrome since I threw in that orange sun, but I just love a blue/orange combo!) I feel very confident about this design and am looking forward to seeing where she places.
If you like it, please take a moment and VOTE for it. Voting is open April 22-27, 2021. Be prepared to scroll and hunt for the design. I truly appreciate anyone who votes! Thank You!
Thanks for checking out my design and please wish me luck!
And now for a new segment, this is where I will highlight one design from the challenge that I feel may win. This week I found Home on the Range by Garabateo to be the most visually interesting design. The use of color here, or lack there of, really enhances the different textures and unque embelishments within this design. Very well done!
Until next week,
J/Marie
