Wild Grasses - April 8-15, 2021

Spoonflower Design Challenge

Update - The results are in! I placed 150 out of nearly 800 entries for the Spoonflower Breakroom Wallpaper challenge. I’d say that’s not too bad! Looking forward to the next challenge!

Nothing defines childhood more than grass.

If that sounds a little silly, hear me out. Close your eyes and picture grassy knees, grassy baseball fields, or itchy grassy skin. Remember placing the longest blade of grass between your thumbs and blowing into that small, handmade wind instrument? Remember feeling the cold blades of grass against your body as you roll down the tallest hill. Imagine for just a second the smells of your childhood: crayons, my little ponies, diesel gas from your school bus…

… and grass. You know I’m right!

So when I saw the Wild Grasses prompt on the Spoonflower Design blog, it immediately made me think of my own children. I pictured them in my back yard, running through lawn, practicing their cartwheels, playing fetch with the puppy….

… but most of all, hunting for bugs!

The bug phase lasted primarily through their toddler years (though they still get excited for a butterfly or ladybug). They loved finding grasshoppers, spiders, bees, and most importantly and most memorably, the praying mantis!

So with the mantis in mind, I created this fun, bright folksy pattern for this week’s design challenge! I hope you like it!

This design and plenty more are available on my Spoonflower Shop! Check it out!

Voting is open April 8-15, 2021. Be prepared to scroll and hunt for the design. I truly appreciate anyone who votes! Thank you!

And just because, here’s my son with a praying mantis on his shirt.
